A shooting took place in the Bayview District of San Francisco. The suspect was ID’d as 26-year-old Mario Woods, a supposed gang member. This bloody affair took place on Wednesday afternoon, December 2 .
Apparently, Woods was suspected of a stabbing, so police cornered him when they found him walking down the street. A leaked cell phone video of the executing of Mario Woods showed him walking down the street, with the 6-inch knife still in his hand. The police ordered him multiple times to drop the knife. When he didn’t listen, the officers released an array of bullets simultaneously, and shot Woods dead.
Woods’ mother claimed that he had a mental illness, and was just starting to get over it. She also said that that same day, he was starting his job at UPS.
“I think it’s terrible that they ALL opened fire, but I do believe it was right of them because it was a bad move he made for the officers. It was bad that they shot them, but they had to,” junior Mckayla Steffens said.
Many people are arguing that lethal force could have been avoided, and they could have had him surrender in a different manner; the public believes the police could have easily overpowered him.
“It was a better way of handling it than 25 bullets in my baby,” mother Gwen Woods said.
There was a town-hall meeting held on the afternoon of Friday, December 4th, held by the police chief. He made a policy that he would always meet with the town after there was an officer-involved shooting. At these meeting, many of the citizens were telling him to resign, but he argued that he would stay strong.
